The first entries are recorded at Peekskill; subsequent locations include White Plains, Fishkill, and Continental Village, New York; Stamford, Connecticut; Morristown and Bound Brook, New Jersey, among others. North, possibly a Quartermaster in General George Washington's army, record amounts paid for supplies. Records the purchase of hay, horses, oxen, carts, and horseshoes, among various other items. Also records payment for services, such as for driving oxen.

Brigadier General Hawkins instructs the commander of the 2nd Brigade, United States Colored Troops to inform the Colonels of the 50th and 52nd Regiment, and the Quartermaster of the 47th Regiment that their long delay in obeying orders "makes their conduct very much like disobedience of orders When an order is issued it is expected that it will be obeyed as soon as practicable ... " This note appears to have been clipped from another, larger document and contains unrelated handwritten text on the reverse side.

Moore, a Union soldier, informs his friend that he has been on the Steamer Sam Young Packet since 11 February, and that it is two miles from Vicksburg, Mississippi, on the Louisiana shore. Relates that he and others sent a decoy boat toward Vicksburg, and that "all the boys think it cost the rebs at least 500 dollars as the most of these shots was one hundred and sixty pounders." Discusses deaths caused by a smallpox epidemic among soldiers, citing that one boat has seven hundred cases.
