Informs Knox that he will try to obtain silk stockings for him and that George Washington's coat has been charged to his account by Mr. Austin. Has written to Squire Phillips and given the letter to Gideon Hubbard to deliver. Has not yet written Mr. Garey. Mr. P. Palmer and Reverend Isaac Mansfield paid their accounts. Says she and Mr. [Benjamin] Hichborn have completed "the affair of the house" for 5,500 pounds. Says the transaction pains her, though is sure her father will approve once he knows the circumstances. Is worried, however, that others may see Henry as wronging her father somehow. The letter is not entirely clear, but it appears that they have arranged the sale of Lucy's family house, due to the circumstances brought on by the war. Title: to Henry Knox

Jackson had said that "Crane could not get his battalion through the court," but says now "he has got every bounty allow'd him" and will soon have a full regiment. Believes that Lee's, Henley's, and his regiment will never be filled by the "Honorble Court." The court says it will only fill their battalion once it has filled fifteen others, and at the current pace this will never happen. Colonel Lee is on the verge of resigning, and the other officers are distraught. Wishes Knox to advise him on how to handle the situation.
