Written during the Siege of Boston. Says he has nothing new to communicate. Says they have taken "the Plow'd Hill," and that there has been cannon fire and shelling. Says men in his regiment are seemingly more healthy than others, and he mentions deaths in the army, presumably in other units. Believes there are no enemy soldiers formed across from him. British have advanced up Rosebury Neck. Mentions news of friends and family.

Describes a 8 July 1775 skirmish between American and British troops in Roxbury, Massachusetts during the American Revolution. A member of the "Providence Company of Artiliary," Saben describes firing at "browns house" from "Georges Tavern," setting Brown's house and barn on fire. He reports he has a "great Reason to think we killed Some of the [British] Regulars." Asks for his stockings.

Henderson, possibly captain of the Bulldog, informs an unknown recipient of his first lieutenant's failure to conduct duties. States that the lieutenant, Mr. Webb, "has so much neglected his duty lately, that He is Only a nominal officer, and of no kind of service to me." States that among other offenses, Webb went into town without requesting leave. Requests the recipient to "apply to the Board for another Officer for the Bulldog."

Langdon thanks Gerry, Gerry, a Declaration of Independence signer, was a member of the Continental Congress, for his concern over his recent misfortune. Says he will make the best of it. Encloses a copy of his orders to Captain Nanning of the ship "Hector" and a memorandum of provisions he can collect so he can remain at sea until 1 June 1781 if necessary (the orders and memorandum are not included here). Langdon says he has not heard of or from Nanning since he sailed on 25 January 1781 with 97 men.

Upon being informed that Nantucket residents were trading with the Brittish on one of the Elizabeth islands Captain Clayhorn investigated and took two prisoners. One man, John Walter Fletcher, is being sent to Newport, the other, Job Halsey, was sent to the County Committee for a further investigation. Since Williams is on this committeee, explains to him the details of the first examination of the prisoner. Written in a secretarial hand, by Major General Heath's secretary Seth Loring, and signed by Heath. A request for payment of a soldier's wages sent to Ebenezer Hancock, Deputy Paymaster General of U.S. forces. John Black, a soldier in Captain Turner's company in Colonel Bradford's regiment was to receive "Twentysix Dollars & two thirds in full of four Months pay." Black was unable to withdraw his pay with the regiment because he was confined to the hospital. Note on verso, signed by John Black, states he received the money.

States that Collier and his forces took one sloop and tried to take another but the American troops attacked them.
