Also comments on slaves being used as collateral: "We regret that you have had so much trouble with Keybird the lien on the Negroes is ample security for our debt." Hopkins Brothers was a commission firm founded by Johns Hopkins (who also founded the university named for him). Stone was possibly the William B. Stone who was a merchant merchant in Port Tobacco and Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
