Griffin on the second page indicates that the sale was recorded in the Liberty County records on 2 May 1841.

Certified, on 7 August 1843, that Mary Smith, a widow who came to Texas in August 1842, was entitled to a conditional grant of 640 acres in San Augustine County, Texas (accordance with a Texas congressional act passed 15 January 1842). Beneath it is a transfer of Smith's certificate to A.J. Brightwell dated 6 March 1850 and a attestation to the transfer by the clerk, P.M. Graham dated 18 March 1850. At the bottom of page two, George W. Smyth, the commissioner of the General Land Office, certified on 6 August 1850 that this document was a true copy.

One side of this medal contains the bust of President Andrew Johnson. The reverse side contains an engraving of a Native American and an American colonist shaking hands while standing in front of an altar. George Washington's bust stands on top of the altar, and "peace" is written on the altar's side.
