One issue of the City Gazette and Commercial Daily Advertiser dated August 31, 1815. Contains many advertisements and public notices, of particular note are four runaway slave ads. The first ad is for an enslaved man named Tom who escaped from the publisher of the newspaper E.S. Thomas. Tom is described as five feet seven inches, with a mother named Mary West who lives in Petersburg. He formerly belonged to Mr. Dickson the editor of the Petersburg intelligencer. A manumission notice that Barthelemy Campanel plans to emancipate Hanna an enslaved woman of about 60 years of age. The notice states that if anyone has an objection to this manumission they are to file the objection with the Parish Court within 40 days of the notice being posted. On the back of the notice is a statement by the parish court that no objection has been made and as a result the seal of the court has been affixed.

He tells Mary Rose that the school for Gunnery is difficult, and, like everywhere else, they teach it differently. William also tells Mary Rose that he took out some insurance and was sending the forms for her to keep until he gets the policy information. He also says that he has to stop by the orderly rooms to make out a will. At the end of the letter he asks. "How is junior coming along?" William signs the letter as "Tex."
