Title: The Bostonian's Paying the Excise-man, or Tarring & Feathering

Engraving attributed to Philip Dawe, with hand-coloring. Shows the Boston Tea Party in the background, a "Liberty Tree" with a paper "Stamp Act" affixed upside-down, with five unsavory Bostonians forcibly pouring a pot of tea into the mouth of a tarred and feathered tea excise collector. Printed for Robert Sayer and J. Bennett, October 24, 1774. Dawe was a British mezzotint engraver.

Several of the men's faces are blurred, but the cannon appears in sharp focus.

First edition in contemporary blue paper boards with paper spine label. Illustrations fold out, including the infamous woodcut of a slave ship filled with people (volume two, following page 110). Volume one contains 572 pages, volume two contains 592 pages. Printed by R. Taylor and Co., for Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme. Clarkson dedicates the book to British Parliamentary notables devoted to the abolition of slavery.

Some unknown authority then restored Duncan to his former station in violation of the court. Caldwell was Commander in Chief of the armed boats of Philadelphia.

Comments that they were alarmed by an incident taking place in New York on 8 November and got the garrison in order to receive the enemy but they never came. Sends regards to Holten's family, friends, and Benjamin Wadsworth, pastor of the church in Danvers, Massachusetts, where Holten and Putnam were from.
