Robert, Jr. expresses his annoyance with "his Lordship," who ordered a large quantity of cattle and then decided not to complete the transaction. Robert, Jr. consents to follow "his Lordship's" desire, but "wished my Lord had been pleased to have suffer'd me at Least to Compleat that Engagement." He also expresses concern for his country's security, and "fear[s] we shall never live in peace till Canada be in our possession."

He then invites his brother to come and live among all of their siblings, where he will have money, land, and a secure occupation. Robert, Jr. also states that his sons Walter and Peter are succeeding in their education.

William believes that Governor Pownel will join the party of men intent upon challenging Robert, Jr.'s claim to the Manor of Livingston.
