The image shows the earthen bomproof rampart [the "pulpit"] at Fort Fisher with the ocean in the background. Two chimneys constucted out of bricks can be seen along with seven soldiers lounging in and around the shelters. Two men lean on posts by the chimney, two sit on the ground, two more sit on the opposite side and the seventh is visible in the upper right of the image. A row of rifles [stacked arms] runs down the center of the trench. Inscription on verso: "Gardner." Numeric notation on verso: "XXII" and "535."

Washed out image of the bare, rocky western face of Little Round Top. In the right foreground is the Slaughter Pen, denoted by the large boulders and Plum Run ["Bloody Run"] in the extreme right bottom corner. Inscription on verso: "Gardner." Frassanito identifies the photograph as O'Sullivan's. Numeric notation on verso: "319"; "XX 319"; and "VII."

The guns crew and officers stand around the "Dictator," mounted on a rail car. The two officers in the foreground are Colonel H.L. Abbot, First Connecticut Heavy Artillery, and General H.J. Hunt, Chief of Artillery of the Army of the Potomac. Captain F.A. Pratt is on the left. Captain E.C. Don is just behind Colonel Abott and Major T.S. Trumbell is just behind General Hunt on his left.

The image shows a three-rowed line of cavalrymen holding sabres, both seated and standing on a slope behind three standing officers. Several tall, thin trees project from the background. Buglers are seated on the left side of the image in the front row, holding their instruments.

Four Federal soldiers stand atop a tall sand parapet. Wooden stairs lead up to the top where a cannon looks over the other side. There is a great amount of flooding on the lower right side of the image and resting by the water at the base of the parapet are two destroyed cannons. A man stands next to an the entrance of a bom-proof magazine. In the left background, the stockade wall can be seen. Numeric notation on verso: "196."

Wooden steps lead up to the cannon but only the top few are still in place. A Federal soldier stands in the center of the image, leaning against the earthen magazine. Inscription on verso: "Oldway Gardner Coll." Numeric notations on verso: "XXII" and "5-6."
