"a report has prevailed that my father gave me six thousand Dollars before I left him. Let me assure you it is an un truth, it has given me some pain that I should have been heald up to the publick in so unfavourable a point of view as on the one hand to request you to make provision for me by some Arrangement, and on the other (as is is said) to be so amply provided by my father."

Elizabeth writes that she just received a power of attorney for Mrs. Mitchell addressed to Dr. Stevens. However she advises that Dr. Stevens is already engaged and suggests instead sends a power of attorney to a Mr. Cruger her nephew. Cruger is sailing to Saint Croix on January first and so can be Mrs. Mitchell's agent then.

William writes Elizabeth that he just received her last letter because he was called away to attend a meeting of the legislature in Green Bay. He writes that while there he met up with an old school friend who is now an episcopal minister in the area. He then describes his friend and how well off he is. William also mentions that his health has been good, as well as his business. He wishes for Elizabeth's health and gives his love to her and the family.
