Discusses Knox's division of the Ducktrap plantation and "beg[s] leave to acquiant [sic] you that we the said Subscribers would wish to have the said division incoporated into a Town and we would further respecfully intimate to you that it is the wish of the Major part of the said settlers that it be conporated by the name (Knoxtown) and flatter ourselves if it is agreeable to you that the General Court can have no objection to grant our request ... " Goes on to say that they will wait for Knox's answer before bringing a petition to the General Court. Noted in a postscript at the bottom…

Battle at Fort Bowyer, Mobile Point [Ala.]: " A combined British and Spanish force, with 500 or 600 Indians made an attack by land and water on Fort Bowyer in Mobile Point, the battle was tremendous, and continued until about 12 OClock at night when a ... vast explosion took place [destruction of British warship Hermes]". Colonel Hynes was a Nashville merchant. Jackson spells his name Haynes on the envelope.

Title: Revolutionary War Officer's Journal

Early battles, including the battles of Brooklyn, Long Island, White Plains, The Crossing of the Delaware, Brandywine, Gerrmantown, Fort Ticonderoga, Saratoga, etc. Entries from 6/28//1776 to 10/17/1777 (45 pages) with several charts at the end (33 pages), with entries from 1776 to Lincoln's Discharge in 1783. This was written by Lincoln after the war, but contains a very significant and unusually complete wartime record.
