A line of wagons stretches across the image engineers at the head of the teams and drivers seated in the wagons. The wagon covers bear the castle insignia of the engineers. A flag is flying on the left side of the image. Inscripton on verso: "Gardner." Stamp of Century company and the inscription "Gardner" are on verso. There is a large pile of planks in the center of the image lying next to the railroad tracks that lead to several cars on the left in the distance. A small group of men is seated on some of the planks on the left while a larger group stands to the right. Behind the tracks many men stand on a large platform that is just in front of four "Sibley" tents. The number "2019" is visible in the lower left of the image. Inscription on verso: "Manassas."

Four Federal cavalrymen are sitting or leaning on posts in the foreground on the right of the image. On the left, multiple railroad tracks lead off to the horizon. There are train cars on the leftmost track which were abandoned by the Confederates upon their evacuation. The track to its right diverges to form two parallel tracks. Farther back, several men on horseback are visible near the center of the image.
