Written to the Vice-President of the United States offering to resign his seat in the U.S. Senate on the basis of poor health. "I wish to execute, to the best of my power, the trust with which I have been honored by my country." Indicates that his health is very poor and he cannot undertake a journey to New York until March. He relays his wishes that if the Senate cannot be assembled without him, he wants his successor to be elected right away and sent to New York.
