In response to his father's inquiry, Hopkins writes that the only bird he can identify is the French variety of crow which, he says, speaks French as is does not "caw" like its American counterpart. Is appalled that the army asked the boys at Camp Dix to re-enlist. Written on Army and Navy Young Men's Christian Association letterhead. Written at Camp Dix.

Also recommends him for a post in the infantry or cavalry, as Tyler had served under him previously and he knows Tyler's abilities.

Also discusses business regarding land. Says [Madam de] Leval is convinced that she will succeed with either the Committee or the Legislature. Believes that she is "determined to hold on to the last and attack the General Court when they come together..." and "this will hold you in a damn'd state of suspence." Informs Knox on the status of Knox's family as they are getting ready to travel.
