There are two prints in this document set, both are copper engravings with original outline color added. They combine to form a single map of a portion of the Colonies. The first is of Eastern Pennsylvania with the misspelling "Pensilvania", from Thomas Jeffery's American Atlas. The second is of Southern Virginia and North Carolina. The map of Virginia is engraved with a note that addresses the maps to George Dunk, Earl of Halifax. Matthew Seutter, following Jansson and Nicholas Visscher. Engraved map, handcolored. The map shows the back-and-forth tussle between the Dutch and English over New York and New Jersey, and uses both sets of place names. Cartouche shows New York City (New Amsterdam) (incolored). The figures surrounding the cartouche include enslaved people laboring with other people, present produce to a seated monarch who may be George II. See R. V. Shows Confederate line of batteries, roads, rivers, and ravines. Also shows the town layout with gun placements and building locations. Approximately forty buildings appear, including the headquarters of the 83rd Illinois Regiments, Colonel A.C. Harding's quarters, the commissary, magazine, post office, jail, and hospital. Made sometimes around the Battle of Fort Donelson in February 1863.

Based on the notes of M. le Maire by Guillaume del'Isle. The first detailed map of the Gulf coast region and the Mississippi, and the first printed map to show Texas. With an insert of Mobile Bay. This map was also the first to show the land routes of earlier explorers: Desoto in 1539 and 1540 and his successor Moscoso in 1542, Cavelier in 1687, Tonty in 1702 and the recent routes of Denis in 1713 and 1716.
