Writes from the cantonment at Sackets Harbor, New York, to his brother to report problems with soldiers' pay shortly after the end of the War of 1812. Notes that General Jacob Brown assumed command and comments on his activities pertaining to discharges and military reorganization after the war. Discusses at length his inclination "for going to the westward" after his discharge, weighs the pros of and cons of the possibility, and seeks aid in the endeavor.
