This Confederate prison was situated on Carey Street, and was originally a stron old brick warehouse, until it was converted into a prison. Rebel soldiers are in the foreground, and the Rebel flag floats on top. Startling stories are told of expereinces, suffering and starvation, endured by many Union soldiers once confined in this gloomy building during the war."

Places Captain George Wortham in charge of Company 2, the Granville Greys, in Weldon, North Carolina. The regiment would be known as the Twelfth North Carolina Volunteers. Col. Richard H. Riddick of Pender's Brigade, 34th North Carolina, was mortally wounded at Second Bull Run.
