Prints a letter of President Lincoln to John C. Fremont concerning emancipation. Headline reads, "Modification of the Proclamation with regard to the liberation of slaves." Lincoln asks Fremont to modify his order proclaiming that all slaves owned by Confederates in Missouri were free because it goes against Congress. Civil War news, retreat of the rebel Army of Manassas, news from Havana and Mexico, among other items.

The carte de visites have been removed from the album and stored in individual sleeves. The collection of images is of Ward family members including Dr. and Mrs. Ward, Samuel Marshall Ward, and Elmira Ward. The album seems to have belonged to Samuel Marshall Ward. Also included among the carte de visite, is an obituary for Samuel Marshall Ward who died on 1 October 1903 at the age of fifty-eight.

Signed by Clark, master of an American merchant vessel, imprisoned during the War of 1812 and countersigned by Thomas Gribble as agent for prisoners of war on parole at Ashburton, England. Outlines the rules Clark must follow and the freedoms he is permitted while on parole.
