Maitland, Joseph M., 1836-1918
Autograph letter signed
Title: to Bell Wharton
Letter addressed "My Dear Bell." Expresses deep pleasure at receiving her letters. Reports he will not apply for a furlough and hopes to be home in five months. Encourages her to gain his mother's affections; "Perhaps you can see the object of this, if you can't maybe you will some day." Says he has rheumatism in his shoulder. Complains "This thing of sleeping alone don't pay."
