First edition. Signed as "The Author" to his grandson. The book also has corrections (which appear to be in Mosby's hand): pp. 1, 14, 29, 75 (Gettysburg), 91, 107, 132 and 187. Four corrections emend grammar, three correct officer's names or ranks, two concern dates, and one involves a unit's designation. Mosby defends Stuart's actions at Gettysburg, argues he was following Lee's orders explicitly, and places the blame on Lee's advance units which engaged in a battle rather than withdrawing. CWB I. Collection of 41 items primarily concerning Andersonville Prison, although other Southern prisons, such as Castle Thunder and Libby Prison (both located in Richmond, Va.), are also briefly documented here. Andersonville Prison, located in Andersonville, Ga., housed Union enlisted troops incarcerated by Confederate forces, and operated from 25 February 1864 to late April 1865. Officially designated as Camp Sumter, it held more than 33,000 prisoners, while its cemetery provided graves for 12,000, although actual death toll may have been much higher. Co. 9, USC Artillery (heavy)." Topics include Lincoln's assassination, daily life, etc. Written in a Clayton's quarto diary, with many blank pages in the latter half of 1865.

First edition published by Little Brown. Inscribed in pencil on the titlepage by S. W. Bridgham to "Mrs. Ives." Wormeley was a prominent organizer of women's aid societies in New England during the Civil War. She also served on U.S. Sanitary Commission hospital ships along the Virginia peninsula. She became "Lady Superintendent" of the Lowell General Hospital in September 1862, but poor health forced her to give up the position. Union-occupation issue, covering the fall of Richmond shortly before and the surrender of Robert E. Lee two days before. The front page contains biographical sketches of Confederate generals killed at Richmond or Petersburg, or who played an important role, including A.P. Hill, William H. Fitzhugh Lee, Gen. Pegram. On page 8 appears the correspondence between Lee and Grant, giving the terms of surrender at Appomatox. An article "The Duty of the North" by Henry Ward Beecher pleads pardon for the rebels. Complete set of 26 issues and 7 supplements containing news and other related articles concerning Southern life and culture. The Record was published for six months (the latter half of 1863) and was published by West and Johnson. The masthead was engraved by Julius Baumgarten and depicts the seal of the Confederacy between two Confederate flags. Topics include battle reports, casualties, laws, political news, poems, short stories, etc. There is even a "Black List" of southern-born soldiers who betrayed their home to serve in the federal army.

Title: Diary of Sergeant in Company E, 11th New York Cavalry

A member of the cavalry unit known as "Scott's nine hundred." Millet kept as a record for his family in case he did not survive. It details his activities in Virginia and Maryland before, during and after the Gettysburg campaign. It contains a detailed account of the evacuation of Harpers Ferry and the pursuit of J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry. There are also occasional descriptions of encounters with civilians, North and South. Begins June 1863. Rebound in paper, boxed with original cover.
