Written on the battlefield of Fair Oaks, Virginia to his wife. Reported for duty for the first time in two weeks. They have had recent orders to repulse the enemy from their picket and he expects an attack. Writes that they formed lines of battle but no enemy appeared except for six which another picket took as prisoners. Is unsure of when they will take Richmond but hopes it will be soon so he can go home. Is glad to hear that their families are doing well. Honors the 1st, 4th, 5th Texas and the 18th Georgia, Hampton Legion for their bravery in battle. The broadside prints a portion of a letter by Texas Governor Gustavus W. Smith and Lee's letter of 21 September 1862, praising the brigade. Lists battle honors for West Point, Seven Pines, Gaine's Mill, Malvern Hill, Manassas, Rappahannock, Thoroughfare Gap, Boonsboro and Sharpsburg. Title: to: "Brother an[d] friends."

Wilmor is not sure whether Jesse went to Philadelphia or not but assures them that "god will shield us in the day of Battle." He describes the recent Battle of Fair Oaks, whose battlefield "was the most terrifying place I ever seen the dead lay thick." He claims the Confederates meant to take them all prisoner and "a heap of the nobility came out too see us runn." He has heard that the Confederate soldiers are tired and that they had to "force the North Carolina troops too fight they don't know that the state has returned too the union an[d] called her Troops home."
