One letter addressed to Roseann from William E. Johnson dated February 6, 1976. Bill writes that he is traveling by train to Maryland over the weekend, although he really does not wish to. He is afraid he may "never see Norm alive again." Bill wishes Roseann "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SWEETHEART," for their tenth anniversary. He is happy to have received three letters from her. Adds that he has not gone on any excursions due to lack of money.

Title: Petition from "Phebe" to Judges of Frederick County Court

One undated petition filed with Frederick County Court on behalf of an enslaved woman named Phebe. She stated that slaveowner, Daniel Dorsey, freed her. A clerk, H.R. Warfield, summarized the judgement, stating that Phebe is the property of Deborah Dorsey, not Daniel. Signed by L. Bolt and H.R. Warfield.

Muster roll of Captain Dan Mason, Company H, Nineteenth Regiment United States Colored Troops, commanded by Colonel Joseph Perkins, while stationed at Chapin's Farm, Virginia. Pre-printed form completed in manuscript, with signatures on verso by Capt. Mason and Col. Thomas Sedgwick of the 114th United States Colored Troops. The 19th U.S.C.T. was comprised of African Americans form southern and eastern Maryland, a large number of whom were recruited as slaves.

Encloses some letters from others. Remarks upon the economy and rising prices in Baltimore, "No business of any kind doing, partners all drilling in the 'Home Guard' clerks in the 'Maryland Gds.' Flour $10 per bbl for family. Potatoes $1.00 to $1.25 per bus. I don't know what the poor people will do if this continues."

Undated, unsigned letter with a later note in pencil at top declaring, "Extract from Rodman's letter to Nancy Maxwell-." The writer gives her memory of a Friends Meeting where Rachel Howland rose and asked the congregation to pray for those in slavery as well as men fighting on the battlefields of the Civil War. States that it was very emotional scene.
