States that he is grateful and thanks God that he and his family have been safe from sickness and harm. Reports that a part of his regiment is in Madison and will probably be there for some time. He hopes that if he is to stay long somewhere, it is in a town that he is familiar with. Gives instructions on plowing around the potato crop, killing weeds, and shoeing his horses. He is being kept in a camp near Tennally Town, Washington D.C. to defend the city while the Lincoln assassination trials are going on. Reports that all the testimony from the trial has been taken.
