The images shows John Wilkes Booth riding on a black horse through a group of trees with the capitol building visible in the background. A ghostly image of Abraham Lincoln appears between two trees on the left side of the photograph. The trees surrounding Lincoln's ghost are peppered with tiny ghostly Lincoln heads. A sign posted on a tree on the right of the photograph points to St. Marys, MD. Pasted on the verso is an advertisement for a cholera remedy. Graphite inscription on verso "80318 B.F. Dec. 31, 1928."

Johnston's cousin advises him to write a letter to a girl he is in love with. She also derides an aquaintance of theirs as a "Yankee," and states that she is on her way to the Liberty Pole. With ALS to Johnston from "E.E.G." on p.2. The letter expresses concern regarding Johnston's proximity to a cholera epidemic.
