Two or three balls were given, but Moore chose not to attend because he considers Mormon women dumb and unattractive. Discusses the Mormon block to holding court for the trial of a man who murdered a deaf and dumb boy. Mentions a message issued by President James Buchanan and the speed with which it crossed the Rocky Mountains, and comments that it is "unnecessarily filled with Kansas." Written at Camp Floyd

Mentions that Judge Eckles often takes care of families with attractive women. Moore considers Eckles "a humbug," but keeps it to himself. Written at Camp Floyd.

Asks Charley how it is being a senior at college. States Marion went to Charleston to live with William Colcock. Hutson graduated from South Carolina College in 1859. He was engaged to Emmeline Colcock before he entered service but she died in 1861.

Hutson. Mary Anna Colcock is her sister and married Joseph Dewees. Their parents are William Ferguson Colcock and Emmeline L. Huguenin.

Says Rumford moved to Germany with her father and returned as a countess but a poor one. Quotes a friend saying the Countess had all her parties in Boston, Massachusetts and is well admired for everything but her shabby dress. Also appears to hint at Rumford's death. The second half of the letter is written on a smaller piece of paper.

Pages numbered 5-12 so beginning and end of letter are missing. After escaping to New Jersey, probably in October 1778, from a reference in another letter, they went back to pick up their fellow escapees who could not swim and paid their helpers with the canoe they stole.
