References Knox's letters of 8 and 12 January. The letter of 8 January enclosed "a Copy of Morris's report, respecting the Kennebec Tract." Says the report was discouraging, but he was happy to hear part of it contradicted by communications from Colonel Febiger. Believes the only way to get an accurate account of the soil and situation of the country "is by an actual Survey into Townships." Claims there is no doubt of the Penobscot tract being excellent.
