Knox also tells Davis, "I think you are more competent to decide the case of Tuckey than I am." The journal was likely kept to be used as evidence (probably in court) against the insurgents in Maine. The journal was kept between the dates 25 August 1801 to 5 September 1801.

States the settlers are determined to prevent the survey on Knox's patent (likely the Waldo) and on the Plymouth Company Says the settlers further warns Knox not to send any more surveyors out. Written from Davistown, Maine which is possibly present day Liberty, Maine.

Says a prior arrangement made between himself and his settlers prevents him from leaving home.

Reporting to Knox on their mission to calm the people living on his lands on the Waldo patent. State that they have told the settlers there that Knox intends them no hard, and while some are convinced, otheres are still suspicious, and others even threaten violence. Those leaving near Knox's lands also distrust his intentions. Informs Knox that many of these citizens had been told that Knox and his surveyors were looking to take their land. The last four pages are slightly smaller, and are sewn onto the front eight pages.

Replies to Eustis's letters written on the 17th and 23rd (see GLC02437.04479). Discusses the situation of the invalids, particularly the invalid pensioners. Upon reviewing the subject with other general members, believes it to be impracticable to obtain a new inspection of the invalids. States that "the subjects of invalid pensions had better remain on its present footing for the following reasons..." Goes on to list the reasons, most of which deal with how the individual states handle their own invalids and finances. Also discusses his legal trouble with the Waldo patent.
