Complains he has no blankets, socks or proper fitting shirts. Comments on President Abraham Lincoln's re-election and the demise of the Democratic party.

Writes he is sorry to hear of his family sickness, commenting "were it not for sickness we would not know how to appreciate health properly." Remarks that he has been enjoying the nice weather they have been having and states, "how can you keep from falling in love I find it almost impossible, such weather makes me feel good and incline towards the good, kind, and beautiful beings." " Writes that he wants to wrap his arms around her, and that he could express his feelings much better in person. Asks her "not to tell any one the nonsense I write to you, or they certainly would think I was a big fool."
