The book was kept as a record of planting, harvests, weather, preparation of ground, allocation of slave labor, crop yields, prices realized, and other agricultural matters. The hat box's history is printed on verso. Mrs. Lincoln gave it to a Mr. Gallagher who sold it to a Mr. Barker who sold it to the owner at the time, Sam Hinkle of Springfield, Illnois. The hat size is 8 1/2.

List of dry goods Washington ordered for his plantation. Includes blankets, buttons, and cloth. Most of the items are material for blankets and clothing for his slaves. Asks for "6 pieces of the largest - thickest and best striped Blanketing for negros. - these pieces generally contain 15 or 16 blankets each. -" This list was written two and a half weeks before Washington's death. Previous research stated that the paper has the watermark of George Washington's stationery, but this could not be confirmed. A partial watermark is at the bottom corner of verso.

Title: 1942 WWII American home front diary

One diary from an unknown author dated 1942. Contains the daily life on the home front during the beginning of United States involvement in World War II. The first page contains a note that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The diary is not signed so the author remains unknown. However, due to the activities and friends mentioned throughout the diary it likely belonged to a woman. She mentions her work schedule at Schultz and her daily chores as well as leisure activities. She mentions bowling almost every night.

There are two log books. This file was dated using the first book covering Acting Master Shankland's time on the USS "Winnebago," while the second book covers his time as a lieutenant on the USS "Guard" from March 1866 to May 1866. The USS "Winnebago" log: Note written on a preliminary leaf says that information on engagements can found on pages 9, 39, 44, 45, 46, 49, 50, 53, 57, 58, and 75. Says he reported for duty on the "Chickasaw" on 16 May 1864, but was given command of the "Winnebago" on the Red River on 24 May 1864 instead. Took command on 8 June 1864 and reported 28 sick men.…

Since that time, however, Hodgdon has learned that "Mr. Mead has taken Mr. Hunters rooms for his friend in New York." Instead, Hodgdon will now "engage Mrs. Buddens house with the furniture as it stands agreeably to a lender." Hodgdon will also make space in an office for Knox and his papers.

They were upset because they had to lay out substantial sums for the move, and apparently could have used money from the furniture (either their set or Knox's).
