This is "A True Coppy" of a petition first written on 24 March 1783. Says at the beginning of the year 1780 they empowered Lt. Col. Popkin to "do us the Strictest Justice" to get their notes from the state of Massachusetts from 1777-1779. He received the notes, but before returning to West Point, he sold one of them at a third discount and then left the other 3 notes in Boston. The petitioners said this went against their agreement, as he was only supposed to receive and deliver the notes. Petition signed by four non-commissioned officers, and what appears to be ten privates (several of the privates used an "X" as their mark). This petition asks Knox for help in getting money due to them that they feel Lt. Col. Popkin did not handle as instructed. Popkin had been sent to Boston to collect the group's pay notes. Written in Shaw's hand. Travelling expenses for Knox, his adjutant Monsieur Colreuse, and his man John. The total cost came to £7.7.11. Note at bottom says that Shaw borrowed 30 dollars from Knox, part of which was used to pay Knox's account at the Widow Sills Tavern in Trenton. Page 2 says the amount is to be charged to the Quartermaster General.

Acccount Samuel Shaw had with John Fisher in Philadelphia. These items were "charged to Gen Knox" and Shaw signed it, verifying the charges. The bill was for $77.75. Some of the items bought included shoes, shirts, combs, hair powder, snuff, paper, sealing wax, quills, etc. It is also noted that mending and washing of clothes was done. Docket in Shaw's hand.
