This appears to be a preliminary draft of Knox's 29 August 1790 letter to George Washington (in the GW Papers at the Library of Congress) responding to Washington's secret communication of 27 August. In that communication, sent to the members of his Cabinet, Washington asked for opinions as to the proper response to take if the British asked for permission to travel across U.S. territory, from Detroit to the Mississippi, in order to attack Spanish posts. Signed by Lieutenant Colonel Hill. Lists Ensign Alexander Salans as wounded in the left arm. Mentions that he paid for part of his "cure" and that he was given a certificate with the monthly returns of 1 April 1778. Mentions three widows and two orphans whose husbands and fathers were killed and who are to have their passage back to Great Britain paid by the regiment. That the passage would be paid is from the General Order dated 9 May 1777 in Quebec.

Nine stanza poem printed in Boston. Each stanza has eight lines and follows an "aabbccdd" pattern of rhyme. This broadside is the seventh edition. Date is estimated as around the end of the Battle of Saratoga in October 1777, but it could be later than that given this is the seventh edition. Told from the point of view of British General John Burgoyne while he is surrounded by American forces. Burgoyne sends his lamentations to the Greek goddess Diana in the poem. Chaplain Francis P. Duffy conducts a service at the grave of Lt. Quentin Roosevelt, near Chamery, France. Lt. Roosevelt's plane was brought down back of the German lines, July 14, 1918. The American advance brought the spot within American lines a few days later. The Germans had marked the grave with a cross of boughs and an inscription upon a board from the wrecked plane: 'Lt. Roosevelt, American Aviator.'" Stamp of U.S. Committee on Public Information on reverse. A second stamp on back reads: "A.E.F. [American Expeditionary Forces] Passed as Censored."
