Describes in detail his visit to Elmwood Cemetery, where thousands of Union and Confederate soldiers are buried. New York Sons of Liberty destroying a statue of King George III. Highly imaginative scene with late Baroque buildings more characteristic of Germany or Austria or perhaps Holland. Hand-colored. Background shows a full-length statue (it was equestrian) and many turbaned slaves. (Slaves were, in fact, involved in pulling down the statue.) Plate mark "Aaaa no. 2" at bottom.
