Provides an affidavit explaining why Nathanael Greene agreed to provide security for the debts of John Banks. Relates that in 1783, Robert Morris, Superintendent of Finance, asked Greene to arrange for the supply of provisions to the Southern Army when their existing contract expired. The only private contractor who would agree to negotiate with Greene was John Banks. Greene had no choice but to accept Banks's offer, even though he thought Banks's terms were too high, and the contract between Banks and the Southern Army commenced 20 February 1783. Augustine Williamson promissory note owing "five thousand pounds of good sound Merchantable sweet sented Tobacco and Caffe" to William Johnson. Docket states that Johnson now owes four thousand pounds to John Somoes. Signed by John Vivion, John Williamson, William Vallicot, and by Augustine Williamson with his mark. Also signed by Edwin Thacker as Middlesex County Court Recorder, and affixed with a seal. The docket, dated 23 October 1695 and 2 December 1696, is signed by James Williamson, Edwin Thacker, and Robert Williamson with his mark.

Ware promises to sell off his property to repay a debt to George Garrett's estate, of which Benjamin Faulkner is a trustee. Ware will sell off ten slaves, who are named, a horse, cattle, and other goods, to be sold to "the highest bidder" to pay debts owed Garrett's estate. Also signed by John Thurston, David A. Wilson and Elizabeth Thurston as witnesses. Attested to by court clerk, Thomas Muse, on docket, dated 20 February 1810. Docket also signed by Ware, Muse, Wilson and John and Elizabeth Thurston.

Captain Joseph Brooks was tried at a general court martial for not paying his debts, falsifying his word, and for claiming a Virginian named Robert Cunningham was of good repute.
