Discusses financial arrangements with Mr. [Christopher] Gore and Mr. [Benjamin] Carpenter. Touches on a variety of other financial matters and includes calculations as well.

Writes, "In my letter to you I state how ruinous such a measure would be to me owing to my previous arrangements and that I expected you would have all my continental certificates ready to be delivered to me or my order by the 1st of next month." Predicts South Carolina and Virginia will adopt the Constitution, but worries New York will not.

Jackson tells Knox that "Mr. Pickman of Salem" has called on Jackson to pay the interest due to him. Jackson suggests that Knox pay up. Jackson has not heard from Knox's son and cannot be sure what ship he boarded, if any. He knows Henry Jackson Knox was not in Philadelphia as of the 1st of April. He tells Knox to write his son, Henry Jackson Knox, until Knox knows of his son's situation and ship. Jackson expects Knox's daughter's wedding will not occur until "we have an arrival from Malaga" of food and wine.

Written by Knox as Secretary of War to Livingston, an Albany merchant. References Livingston's letter of 31 May. Encloses a bill for 36 dollars to pay Lieutenant Foy the Collector. Says he does not have a copy of the receipt "annexed to Mr. Duer." (Knox owed money to Livingston for a house rental.) Is not sure if it has been refused. Apologizes and says he did not mean to offend.

Knox discusses with Lincoln matters concerning their business affairs. He tells Lincoln that Henry Jackson is having a difficult time advancing anything, and he asks Lincoln that he not bring any action against Jackson, "as it will have a most pernicious" [effect]. Knox says he will try to get Lincoln the money by mid-summer. Knox goes on to talk about other related matters and offers ideas about how to best deal with associates who are requesting money or who are not paying up.

Informs Knox that he still owes Dr. McKnight a "small Bill... of two Guineas and 3/4" from the summer of 1784 when General Knox was living on Wall Street. Mrs. Knox had fallen ill, when she felt better she and Knox had left. Dr. McKnight was not there to settle the bill. On the second page of the letter, there is a receipt indicating that Dr. McKnight "received of General Knox five pounds, two shillings."

Longman mentions Knox's letter to him of 2 June entrusting power of attorney to him allowing him to receive money from Mrs. [Hannah Urquhart] Harwood [Lucy Knox's sister], to pay an outstanding debt. The transaction has been taking longer than expected. The firm of Wright & Gill are also involved in this unpaid debt. and they are frustrated with Mrs. Harwood's lack of cooperation. Longman asks that Knox do everything in his power to compel her to relent.
