Says the promised acres that were Flint's payment for his help in the purchase of the 2 million acres has been secured in the agreements and covenants with William Bingham. Any further information will be given by Bingham. Says he is too unwell to write in detail, but "the last contract is so circumstanced that it must be returned by us." Says Henry Jackson is going to New York and is empowered to handle Flint's situation.

Bingham would have been willing to accede to the request "had it been for your own [Flint's] accommodation but he knows to the contrary." Reports that Bingham dislikes having his notes handed about. Encloses the $2,500 bond for Flint (not included). It seems that Flint was in debtors prison at this time (see GLC02437.05884).

"His moral character is perfectly fair and unimpeachable - and no man perhaps is actuated by more independent, and purer principles of honor and Justice." Has clear judgment, dignified manners, and decision of conduct. Is 40 years old and is rumored to be in debt, but not embarrassingly.
