Received the letters Knox sent to him the previous November. Confirms that he is sending Knox the merchandise he asked for, including wine and a pipe. Has carefully monitored the quality of the items and is confident they will be to Knox's satisfaction. Discusses methods of payment for the goods. Presents his compliments to Knox's wife, and sends news of some of their friends. Also asks that if Knox is pleased with the wine, he recommend Pintard's services to his friends.

Writes to his brother that he has been back at camp 19 days and has not heard from anyone in Pocotaligo, South Carolina. Reports on what has been happening in camp since he has been back. Explains that they discussed Congress, first negatively, then with praise for their military tax bills. 133 conscripts have been added, they have gotten coffee and sugar but little meat, they have moved to a new camp, and have praised General Lee for granting furloughs. Mentions that he is lonesome. He is waiting for a box Marion is sending. Comments that is he waiting for a recruit that Marion is…

Expresses relief he is still in Memphis. Reports his regiment is suffering, with little to no food. Says the Baptist meeting is over and they "immersed" seventeen people. Comments she witnessed the immersion and "...became disgusted and went home thinking I had seen enough for one day." Mentions that Grier is at a party, but she intends to limit his socializing in the future. States she is glad that religion comforts him in all his trials.

Writes to his mother. "...I never knew what it was to go hungy till I come here...I was on the sick list when we got here but I shouldered my gun and marched with the Regiment...we have had one meal of bull soup, we slept in the sand 3 nights all I had to eat in 30 hours was 1/2 pint of rice." "...10 guns boats but we did not get but one of the boats...the Rebel's genarl was kild and then the rest run and flung their things away...we did at Bull Run..." No year on letter.

Miller writes to his wife from camp near Union Mills. Notes that their duties are difficult, since there are no other Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteers at their location. Describes standing picket in mud and water for 24 hours at a time. Comments on his living quarters, rations, and clothing.
