Livingston's son Robert (1688-1775) made a trip to Scotland in 1699, bringing with him such supplies as "a new morning gown," "6 fine hollan Shirts," "a Gold ring & a pare of Silver buttons," and numerous spices. He travelled on the Calledonia with Capt. Drummond Commander, and under the care of Capt. Samuel Vetch.

Title: Livingston's plan for victualling

Livingston claimed that the four companies of soldiers garrisoned at Albany would require £3650 worth of food, or die of starvation, and that former Gov. Fletcher "would not undertake the victualling of the Companies but requird they would raise a Credit for the doing of it." Therefore Livingston presented this plan in an effort to lower his own expenditures while victualling the soldiers.

John writes home to send his wishes of health to all, especially his mother who had just recovered from a fever, and then begins to list his creditors, including Duncan Campbell and Messrs. Long and Van Sweten. He requests that his father send him a ledger and a journal to assist him in this venture, and asks that Robert Livingston inform Benjamin Ash that John could not afford to sell pork for less than £3 5 shillings per barrel. Singed by Toby with an X, also signed by Samuel Swift and Thomas Hazard, both Justices of the Peace. States that "Hannah Toby Indian Woman" has indentured her son "Javin Toby a Molatto" to John Steadman and his wife for fifteen years and five months. The terms of the indenture specify that "He shall not use any unlawfull games, nor Contract Matrimony nor Commit Fornication during sd Term." He must faithfuly obey them, and they must provide food and clothing.
