Written from camp near Warrenton Junction, Virginia. Expresses his regret that Uncle Wills' son died. Writes, "O what misery and heart aches children have caused thousands of Parents since this wretched war has been in progress." Mentions his cravings for vegetables, noting: "I would walk ten mile for a mess of cabbage and potatoes." Recounts some trouble he got into with a patrol when he went out of camp without a pass to buy turnips. Notes that there are hard feelings between his division and "the Regulars," the regulars being jealous of them since the Battle of Gettysburg.

An account of the expenses of the contractor John Durand for the provisions he delivered to the Commissary of Stores at Cork, Ireland for 4,850 British troops in America. The contract was dated 2 September 1779. The left column of the account has debits while the right has credits. The credits were received from 23 September 1779 to 7 December 1779 and add up to slightly over 42,296 pounds. The debits begin on 8 March 1780 and end on 16 August 1780. A proclamation in the name of Francis Bernard, Governor of Massachusetts Bay, which announces a day of fasting during the French & Indian War. The top of the document is marked with a printed Royal engraving that contains the notation "Dieu et Mondroit", meaning 'God and my right'. The engraving recognizes King George III and his divine right. The document was printed in Boston by John Draper. On verso there is a handwriten note "Fast April 22, 1761" in the upper right corner.

Thornton praises Lear: "I cannot express the satisfaction I feel at the worthy Act you have done in sending Grain to Algiers when they were in destress [sic], & when it would have made you a very large Fortune you have done it on the part of Government . . . . Nothing can more reconcile the Barbarians to us than to shew such disinterested Conduct." Dr. Thornton treated Lear as a patient, and was also a prominent architect and inventor.
