Hunt, Chief of Artillery of the Army of the Potomac, writes in pencil on Artillery Headquarters, Army of the Potomac stationery. Notes things he needs to do, including making sure rations are drawn, obtaining several field returns, confirming that ammunition has been drawn before leaving Fredericksburg, Virginia, etc. Cites one captain's refusal to act as commissary, and mentions the 2nd, 5th, and 6th corps of infantry. Lists other notes. Possibly written in Virginia. Content pertains to the campaign of Cold Harbor.

Farragut says he has just returned from an official visit with the Spanish commander of a steamer of war who had been detained for lack of proper documents. The Spanish commander was forced to land at New Orleans because he was out of provisions. The "store vessel", where the proper papers were stored was below and unreachable. Shaw, on behalf of himself and Thomas Randall, his business partner, declares that their firm is bound to George Bell's firm in Ostend, Flanders (he spells it "Ostende;" in present-day Belgium) for a particular sum of money. Outlines the terms of the financial transaction, which apparently involves the sale by Bell of Shaw's merchandise, including an assortment of teas. Marked an extract of a letter from Philips, Cramond & Co. to George Bell. Samuel Shaw's name is written in place of an address. Declares that the bond they received from Shaw was satisfactory, but he seems to have misunderstood certain terms related to Bell's portion of the contract. Relates how they rectified the situation with Shaw. The third page says that Mr. Cramond asks that Shaw read and sign for the value of some tea at the bottom of the agreement.
