Writes that he is sending along 13 1/2 yards of bottle green cloth, of Hartford manufacture. Would have sent more, but only 13 1/2 yards of this color came, and the other colors were too mean and coarse. Estimates that "[t]here will probably be enough for a coat and waistcoat for you and also for Mrs Washingtons rid[in]g dress." Reports that it was fairly inexpensive, only two dollars per yard, and he hopes the package arrives quickly and safely. Knox's retained draft.

Maryland governor Lee asks Virginia governor Thomas Jefferson to allow delivery of the enclosed letter [no longer present] to a recently-landed flag ship bearing supplies for General John Burgoyne's captured army, the so-called Convention Troops. Lee explains that he has told British Convention troops commander General James Hamilton that the ship, now at Hampton Roads in Virginia, may sail to George Town, Maryland in order to deliver those supplies intended for the Convention troops in that state. Livingston's son Robert (1688-1775) made a trip to Scotland in 1699, bringing with him such supplies as "a new morning gown," "6 fine hollan Shirts," "a Gold ring & a pare of Silver buttons," and numerous spices. He travelled on the Calledonia with Capt. Drummond Commander, and under the care of Capt. Samuel Vetch.
