Fragment of a letter written by Brigadier General Henry Watson Powell to General Burgoyne. Watson served under Burgoyne as commander of the 2nd Brigade during the Saratoga Campaign. This fragment is simply the closing of the letter. Says: "Carpenters, Masons;, Smiths, Oxen, Corvee Canadians[,]Carts & Horses with Harness compleat[.] Therefore The Ballance & Carts being destroyed will be of no great consequence." Title: [Accounts during Saratoga Campaign according to David Geddes]

Created by Geddes as acting paymaster under British General John Burgoyne. This was written after the British defeat at Saratoga in October 1777. Document is divided into two sides, one side which marks expenditures by officers under Burgoyne and another that reconciles the expenses. Account goes from 15 June 1777 to 12 December 1777. Balance for expenditures by officers is slightly over 507 pounds. Combined with Burgoyne's own expenses of 330 pounds, the total balance is slightly over 837 pounds, "Errors Excepted."

Informs Lucy that she has full possession of his heart. Expresses relief that her case of smallpox has improved. Discusses Mr. Bowdoin, possibly a man hired to help Lucy upon the departure of a previous servant or assistant, Mr. Bolling. Discusses the British burning of Danbury, Connecticut, which took place in April 1777. Notes that the loss of stores in Danbury "was very amply made up in the store ship lately taken and carried into Dartmouth." Discusses the possible intentions of British General William Howe, and whether he is bound for Philadelphia or the Hudson River.

Informs Bryant as a consequence of a resolve of Congress that Colonel Mason is excused from duty. Says it is Congress's wish to place Bryant in charge of the Laboratory with the pay equal to that of a Captain's pay at other branches employed at the same post. Asks Bryant notifies him immediately if Bryant is willing to accept the position. Discusses what will be expected of Bryant and the need to have the Laboratory run like a "well regulated Machine." Fragile.
