Ames Co. of Chicopee, Massachusetts is requesting an extension as he says he cannot have the knapsacks ready for delivery in the time stipulated in the contract.

Get authority to organize Battalion that we may elect officers when we leave answer." On telegram stationery of the Magnetic Telegraph Company. Peyton H. Colquitt reached the rank of colonel; he died of wounds sustained at Chickamauga in September of 1863.

Begins on 30 January 1862, when Payne shipped out from New York on the USS Richmond for 3 years of service. Covers Payne's entire enlistment; includes a running tab of pay due and accounts for supplies; contains many references to ships encountered, as well as various admirals and generals. The "Richmond" ranged from Vicksburg, Mississippi to Pensacola, Florida, but appears to have been based in New Orleans. Among the entries: 7 May 1862…

Gerry was Chairman of the Committee of Supply of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress.

Containing pressed copies of Lansing's letters and an account of his military career, pp. 73-78 (5/19/1882). These include military letters as clerk in the Depot Quarter Master Dept (1870s), business letters and family letters to his brother Abraham in Albany, NY. The letters are written from Vancouver Barracks, Washington Territory (1878-86), Los Angeles, Cal. (1886-92) and close in retirement in Jeffersonville, Ind. (1892). The final letters close accounts in Los Angeles.

Title: A Journal of a Scout from Crown Point to St. John's Chamblee by Lieut Benjamin Whitcomb and four men

Clerical copy of a report of Whitcomb's spying mission in Canada 14-27 July 1776. Details their progress, the weather, attempts to get prisoners, and sightings of British troops moving supplies, etc. Notes that Whitcomb fired on a British officer [Brigadier General Patrick Gordon], whom he ended up killing though he was not aware of Gordon's identity at the time. Includes a three-line autograph note signed by Continental Major General Horatio Gates to Richard Varick, who was serving as military secretary to General Philip Schuyler, advising that the report be forwarded to Schuyler.

Co-signed by Hartford mayor Thomas Seymour and Connecticut Treasurer John Lawrence. Countersigned by Moses Kimball on verso when he received payment and E. Plummer who audited the payment. Seymour and Ellsworth were members of the Connecticut Committee of Four, also called the Pay-Table, which handled finances for Connecticut during the Revolution. This document provides payment to Moses Kimball for the purchase of saltpetre. Also gives Kimball money to pay Prosper Whitmore for guarding, transporting, and feeding Continental prisoners.
