He closes the letter by giving his love and stating that he will be sending the letter via his friend, W. Jenk.

Says there were "many exciting rumors in camp this afternoon," but there is no definite information as to where they will be traveling. Mentions that he is unaware of any recent news because he has not seen a paper since yesterday morning. Promises to write when they reach the next stopping place, "Providence permitting."

The "affair" mentioned might be when Fort Pickins was taken by the union on Januray 10 1861.
