Adds that as the weather becomes more severe, duties of the grand parade will be dispensed with. Includes several other specific orders. Written and signed by Charles Selden, who certifies that this document is an exact transcript of garrison orders issued by Brigadier General Henry Jackson.

Marked as a "coppy," by Major Bauman. Bauman, commanding the artillery at West Point, writes to Hull, commandant of West Point. Bauman expresses his "surprise and grief" at Hull's order requiring captains to be detailed by an adjutant, thus placing the artillery in rotation with the infantry to perform common duties. Declares, "it is unwarrantable... to send Artillery men into the lines, and infantry on the Batteries." Threatens to take his complaints to Henry Knox, the Secretary of War, then Congress if Hull does not withdraw his order.

Major Bauman, commanding the artillery at West Point, writes to Hull, commandant of West Point. Refuses to comply with orders issued by Hull requiring artillery to engage in "the common duty of the Garrison" under the adjutant. Anticipates his suspension, noting the command of ordnance and stores should pass to the next senior officer until he receives a proper investigation. Requests a supply of firewood in the interim. Docketed as "No. 2."

Knox, Commander at West Point, confirms receipt of a letter from Washington in which Washington ordered "a suspension of the troops and stores destined to the Western posts." Reports that there are French refugees in the vicinity of West Point under the direction of a Major Merlet, "who have drawn about one hundred rations to day for men women and children." Relates that Major [Caleb] Gibbs and the Second Massachusetts Regiment will arrive at West Point the same day this letter is written (Gibbs had traveled with his detachment to Philadelphia). Signed by Mr. Bell as Commissary of Issues at West Point, Ensign James Sawyer commander of the 4th regiment which made up the fatigue party, and John Lillie as an aide-de-camp to General Knox. Provision return for a fatigue party stationed in Montgomery for three days from 1-3 August. A total of 34 men were issued 102 rations. Docket signed by a sergeant stating that contractors delivered the rations.
