Last will of Henry W. Tabb, making provisions for his lands, children and enslaved people. Provides two hundred dollars per year for the education of each younger child. Wants his main plantation maintained, "for the support and education of my children," with forty enslaved people and an overseer. Desires that an additional enslaved person "between the ages of twelve and sixteen" be given to each of his younger children. Inventory lists the value of items belonging to the estate of Thomas Winn, including enslaved people, tools, livestock and foodstuffs. Also lists outstanding debts on Winn's estate. Among the enslaved people listed is "An old and superannuated woman Phebe (considered to be worth nothing)." Docket notes that the enslaved people were hired out from the estate. Appraised by John Fuqua, John G. Hughes and Pearce W. Metton. Signed by John Winn as administrator of the estate of Thomas Winn.

Remarks that the Comte de Paris and Duke de Chartres were away when he was in France. Traveled through Japan, China, Malaysia, Ceylon, India, and other locales. Mentions military reunions. Mentions an article Hunt wrote for Century Magazine (possibly on the Battle of Gettysburg). Congratulates Hunt on his son Henry's bravery for participating in the Greely expedition. Mentions the death of a recent acquaintance, who caught dysentery from drinking water in St. Louis, Missouri. The 1881 Greely expedition in the Arctic ended in disaster due to the failure of supply ships to reach the expedition party. When assistance reached the expedition in 1884, only seven members remained.

A short article, "The Death of Stonewall Jackson," reports that Jackson died of complications from his injuries, which were initially not considered severe. "The Killing of Van Dorn" includes excerpts from multiple other newspapers investigating the death. Includes two accounts of battles, entitled "The Battles of Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg," reprinted from the Richmond Enquirer, and "The Battle of Bayou Pierre or Port Gibson," which details events along the Big Black River.
