Acknowledges Pacon's letter of 11 April 1829 which provided "a List of all the Grants of Land, purporting to have been made in the Floridas, by the Government of His Catholic Majesty." This diplomatic letter deals with the messy entanglements and complications of territorial land issues between the United States and Spain in Florida. Title: [Deposition by Johannes DePeyster regarding a Six Nations land deed]

DePeyster, a former mayor of Albany, gives the history the Indian deed to a property called Tiondrogue, possibly present day Ticonderoga. Describes an incident on 12 September 1733 in which colonial Governor William Cosby told DePeyster the deed was illegal, gave it to the Indians, and had them destroy it. A note on the detached third page, signed by G. Johnson, indicates that the deposition was entered legally on 11 December 1734. Witnessed and signed by Richard Ashfield, J. Forkill, D.D. Indicates that General Frederick Haldimand, the governor of the province of Quebec, refused to agree on any terms until there was a definitive treaty, although he did observe a cessation of fighting. Claims that Haldimand will limit communication and attempt "to hinder any overtures, being made from the United States to the Indians."

Title: to John Dickinson

Written by Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, as Governor of Virginia to Dickinson as President of Pennsylvania. Written "In Council." Regarding the ownership of land along the Virginia-Pennsylvania border. This problem dated to the 1740s and was temporarily resolved during the Revolution, but became an issue after the war. Surveys were finally done in 1784 that gave the land definitively to Pennsylvania by 1786. This letter is asking Dickinson for an update on the problem.

Has heard nothing from Colonel Payton on the Loudoun County land for which Mercer was charged. Written in Charlestown, possibly in Massachusetts. Writes to inform Knox that he purchased of Zachariah & Bethiah Fowle a house, barn and land in 1756. He bought them from Thomas Flucker, Knox's father-in-law, to whom the property had been mortgaged. Some time later, he happened to encounter Mr. Flucker and was told that everything regarding the mortgage was arranged to Henley's satisfaction. Mentions that Mr. [John] Adams, the new Vice President, has bought a coach through his agent, Colonel Smith, from Mr. [James] Swan. Sends Mrs. Hichborn's regards to Mrs. Knox, and reports that he should be arriving in New York some time next month.

Relates news of mutual acquaintances and mentions several people complaining that Knox has not written them in a while.
