Title: Proclamation, by Andrew Jackson, President of the United States.

Attacks South Carolina's plans of nullification, warns that "disunion by armed force is treason," and threatens harsh punishment. In 1832, South Carolina claimed that it had the right as a state to nullify federal law, in particular the federal tariff acts of 1828 and 1832. They also claimed the right to secede if the government tried to enforce the acts. This led to the Nullification Crisis. Writes to Secretary of War Armstrong to inform him that since he has not received orders and has finished as a witness in the trial of General William Hull, he will travel to Ohio. McArthur was then a brigadier general. Hull had bloodlessly surrendered Fort Detroit in August, 1812, during the War of 1812, and was charged with cowardice and treason.

Title: Speech of governor Dorr, in answer to the question by the court, why sentence should not be pronounced against him

Published by the Republican Herald Office. Appeals to the citizens of Rhode Island, arguing that the sentence given to him goes against the principles of a democratic Republic. Dorr was charged for treason and sentenced to life imprisonment and hard labor for his role in the Dorr Rebellion.

The letter was written by John Nanfan, Abraham de Peyster, S. Staats, Robert Walters, Thomas Weaver, and William Attwood. They inform the Lords of Trade that they have discovered and investigated a conspiracy to defame the government, led by Nicholas Bayard. P.2 contains a second letter from 21 January 1702, in which the authors encourage the Lords of Trade to make and example of Nicholas Bayard. Docketed on verso.

Sends Aaron $5 to cover the cost for a subscription to the "Centinel" for him, and Robert's inability to advance $100 or more to him due to the high costs of food, lodging and particularly clothing in Savannah. Jeffrey apologizes to Aaron and explains that that what "...in ordinary times would have cost 50 or 60 Doll[ar]s...I wil pay almost 200 for them [now]..." Also, comments on traitors operating covertly in Savanah, the Yankees having a heavy artillery gun that is shelling Charleston, and hopes that General Bragg's Army of the Tennessee is larger than reported.

The manuscript names Thomas Willett, Daniel Whitehead, Capt. Clapp, Elias Doughts, Charles Morgan, & others as the leaders of a "notorious rebellion" in Queens County, and states that they are guilty of treason against the government. It is expected that the men will be apprehended by the government, and the manuscript states that anyone found aiding and abetting the criminals will be charged with a crime as well. Closes by quipping: "Van Buren seems to have got the start of Mr. Calhoun, but the whirligig of Time brings about its revenges."
