This document is in the hand of William Duer, but the last sentence on page 3 is written by Knox, who also signed it. States that Duer and Knox accede to the forming of a French colony on their land in Maine, probably in reference to Madame de la Val and Mr. de la Roche's inquiries. Samuel Hodgdon, the Commissary General Military Stores, writes, "Inclosed you have an order on Mr. [John] Ruddock for a Load of Muskets, to be brought by a returning waggon which getts out from this city to day - and as arms can never come amiss, should be glad to have a load as often as circumstances will permit - and for the delivery when opportunities present, you will produce this Letter which Shall be confidenced as a Standing order until revoked."

The ordnance was for the siege of Yorktown, which began later that month.

Marked "copy." Includes several letters. The first, to Mr. [Life] Wilson, provides instructions for him to build a saw mill in the St. Georges region of Maine using lumber from Mr. James Waller Head. The second note, to Mr. Head, asks him to provide lumber to Mr. Wilson. The third, to Mr. Dunton, asks Dunton to provide Wilson with supplies. The last, apparently to Mr. Vose, provides a variety of instructions about a canal-building project.

Marked as a copy. Knox attests that he ordered the creation of an ordnance and military stores return. Adds, "But from the confused state in which the British stores were, and even our own, which were divided in the trenches, at the Park, and on board the vessells, it is probable there might have been considerable errors..."
