Writes "I have ventured to make this suggestion in view of the possible contingencies of our struggle and in the hope that it may possibly assist you in the great labors... of your position."

Brigadier General Schenck writes to Assistant Adjutant General Townsend from Camp Ewing, to request a duplicate of an order he had misplaced. A note at the top indicates that there were originally two orders, one no. 139 and the other an endorsement on a letter. The note is written and initialed by Townsend. Says "The order issued to me from the Head Quarters of the Army on the 7th Sep. last, to proceed immediately to report in person to Genl. Rosecrans, has been mislaid. I want it as a voucher in the settlement of a question of transportation with the Quarter Master." Written at Camp Ewing.

Receipt accounted for by Colonel Hogun that billed North Carolina for captured American prisoners. Hogun was promoted to Colonel two days previously. Hogun was later captured at Charleston, South Carolina, in May 1780. He refused parole to stay with his men who were being pressured to serve in Jamaica as royal militia. He died in captivity in January 1781.

Inside the newspaper there is a large color map of the railroads of the Eastern United States as well as a smaller map of the railroads of Texas and the harbor in Pensacola, Florida. The map is the size of the entire newspaper folded out. Published at 164 Broadway in New York (it is a weekly publication and costs 25 cents). Front page is filled with an article titled "An Historical and Descriptive Sketch of all Places of all Places of Interests in the Southern States." A paragraph is provided for several dozen places. In his letter to Rawlins, Hewit requests the use of a steam boat as a hospital, and requests that no transfers of sick men be made at this time. The letter is dated 20 March 1862. Grant's undated docket reads "Surgeon Hewit, Medical Director, will make such arrangements for the sick as in his judgment be necessary." Some text loss.

Landman introduced Adams to a Mrs. Marchant and her daughters, of whom he was very fond, and spent the evening with, enjoying musical performances. Adams reports that he saw Bridge's friend, W. Amory. Adams will soon sail to New York.
