He mentions that that evening he had watched "In Our Time", a film about the "death of the old world the rise of the new in Poland." He describes it as a "nice V for Victory affair which makes you want to believe you know what the hell you're fighting for but down inside you know that's belly-wash -"

She is going that night to a place in Brighton that is run by the Jewish Council of Women for Teen Age Kids, she may volunteer if she fits in. Reports her parents went to see her brother Alvin in Buffalo.
